Rules
Rules for the Use of Lakes, Paths and Park Areas
1. All of the lakes may be used for boating and fishing by residents of Sandalwood and their accompanied guests from daylight until 9:00 pm.
2. The Civic Club assumes no responsibility in the event of personal injury or personal property damage.
3. All trash and other refuse is to be put in receptacles which have been provided.
4. No fires may be built for any purpose whatever on community property. Portable barbecue pits may be used only at the Third Lake Park.
5. Pollution of the lakes in any manner, whether by dumping of refuse, waste, bottles, etc., is strictly prohibited. Street drains should be kept free of debris since some of these street sewers empty into the lakes.
6. Horses and horseback riding are not permitted on the paths around the lakes.
7. All hunting is prohibited. The use of all guns, including bb guns and airsoft guns, firearms, spear guns, bow and arrows, slingshots, etc. on the lakes or on Civic Club property is strictly forbidden.
8. No motorized vehicles are allowed on lake paths or on any other Civic Club property.
9. Trespassing is strictly prohibited. Violators are subject to prosecution by the Civic Club.
10. City of Houston leash laws will be enforced.
11. No bottles or glass containers are allowed in the lakes.
12. The Lakes and surrounding property belong to the Sandalwood Civic Club for use by its members and may not be used for commercial purposes.
Rules for Supervised Swimming Area at Third Lake

1. The lifeguard is on duty from 12:00 pm to 6:00 pm throughout the summer at Lake Patti Lynn. After the Labor Day weekend, the lifeguard may be on duty only on weekends. Swimming without a lifeguard on duty will be at your own risk.
2. The swimming area is closed daily at 8:00 pm
3. All swimmers are required to sign in when the lifeguard is on duty. They must have proof of residency, either a driver's license or ability to correctly answer specific questions about their family and residence.
4. All children age 9 or under must be accompanied and supervised by a person 16 years of age or over. The lifeguard is not a babysitter. A swimming test may be administered by the lifeguard if needed for anyone swimming without a parent.
5. All persons utilizing the swimming area are under the supervision of the lifeguard and must follow his/her instructions up to and including removal from the lake.
6. Lifeguard supervision is provided for all swimmers within the roped boundaries of the swimming area. WHEN LIFEGUARD IS ON DUTY, SWIMMERS MUST STAY WITHIN THE ROPED AREA. SWIMMERS NOT ABIDING BY THESE RULES WILL BE REMOVED FROM THE SWIMMING AND CLUB HOUSE AREA.
7. When the lifeguard is on duty, swimmers may swim only within roped boundaries unless accompanied by their parent and swimming to their own house.
8. No jumping or diving into any lake from any area, structure, or tree commonly owned, other than a dock, bulkhead, diving board, or commonly owned raft.
9. No swimming under the rafts.
10. No dogs are allowed in the roped swimming area during the
summer.
11. Swimmers and guests must be accompanied by a Sandalwood resident. Each resident is limited to 3 guests unless they are attending a special function. Special functions require additional lifeguards and must be approved both by the Waterfront Director.
12. Throwing clay or spreading clay on the raft or removing any clay from the lake is prohibited and may result in expulsion from the swim area.
13. IF LIFEGUARD FEELS THAT A PARTICULAR ACTIVITY OR PERSON IS UNSAFE OR UNRULY, HE OR SHE HAS THE AUTHORITY TO STOP THE ACTIVITY OR REMOVE THOSE INVOLVED FROM THE SWIMMING AND CLUB HOUSE AREA.
Party Rules
1. Residents who desire to have a gathering of ten or more non-residents at the swimming lake must seek approval through the Director of Waterfront. Download the Sandalwood Lake Contract.
2. No more than 50 people allowed. The maximum number of swimmers at any party is 30.
3. Residents hosting a party must supply their own lifeguards. One lifeguard is required for every ten swimmers. Children unable to swim must have a parent or guardian with them in the water at all times.
4. No swimming after dark.
5. There is a $50 non-refundable usage fee required for each party. In addition, a $100 refundable deposit is also required. This deposit will be refunded if the party area is kept clean and no damages occur. The Waterfront Director has the discretion as to how much of the deposit will be refunded. If the party facilities are left in a condition found to be egregious, then the matter will be brought before the Board of Officers and Directors.
6. No amplified music/noise after 10 p.m.
7. Reservations for parties are on a first come, first serve basis. No more than three parties per week will be scheduled.
8. Residents and accompanied guests can use the lakes at any time. Lakes are for the benefit of Sandalwood residents and booking a party does not exclude residents from using the lakes.
